We dropped off our bags and walked down to the beach for breakfast. Then we took a leisurely stroll until lunch along the beach.
By 10:00 am the weather was fine for swimming even though it was cool enough for a jacket in the morning.

We liked Newcastle, a quiet but charming industrial/beach town. In the afternoon we did a self-guided historical walk and saw lots of charming buildings from the early 1900's.
